The Bank of Mauritius (Bank), in collaboration with the Financial Services Commission (FSC) and the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), held today a half-day workshop for Money Laundering Reporting Officers (MLROs) in the Aunauth Beejadhur Auditorium of the Bank of Mauritius.
Gathering more than 150 professionals from the banking and financial services industry, the overarching goal of the workshop was to apprise MLROs of the criticality of Anti-Money Laundering and Combatting the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) requirements. The workshop covered the findings of the National Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Risk Assessment Report of Mauritius and the suspicious transactions reporting process, as well as red flags, typologies and trends identified by competent authorities.
In in keynote address, Governor Harvesh Seegolam stated that he has placed the fight against money laundering very high on his agenda. He emphasised that “the Bank will not make any compromise on this score. Non-compliance with the set standards will not be tolerated and will entail severe sanctions. I have given clear directives so that we collaborate on a permanent basis with the competent domestic and foreign authorities.’’
